FAQ
Common questions before setup
Short answers for the decisions people usually make before installing SyncVisor.
Answers
The short version
What is SyncVisor?
SyncVisor is private cloud storage for files and photos, hosted on a server you control.
Who is SyncVisor for?
SyncVisor is for individuals, families, self-hosters, small teams, and organizations that want familiar file access while keeping storage under their control.
What should I install first?
Install Server Manager on the computer that will host SyncVisor. Then connect native apps from your daily devices.
Are native apps or the WebUI recommended for daily use?
Use native apps for daily file access. Desktop apps are designed for Finder and File Explorer where supported, while mobile apps are designed for Files and Android document workflows where supported. Use WebUI for browser access, sharing, admin, backup status, and recovery checks.
Where do WebDAV and rclone fit?
Use WebDAV and rclone for compatible tools, migration, copy, sync checks, mounts, and automation. They are supported tool paths, not the default daily app path.
Can the server read my files?
Yes. SyncVisor uses a server-readable trust model by design so WebUI, WebDAV, sharing, versions, deduplication, compression, and restore can work. Use TLS, strong admin credentials, optional server-side at-rest encryption, and backup targets you control. Read the Security page for the full model.
What platforms are listed for download?
The Download page lists available beta downloads, trust notes, and release metadata. Installer links appear only after the matching evidence gates pass. iOS and Android apps use mobile beta access after those flows are verified.
Should I move important files immediately?
No. Start with a small folder, turn on backup, and restore one file before moving important data.
Ready to start?
Use the install guide first, then choose apps, backup, or WebDAV and rclone as the next job.
